Allegheny County has in place a Senior Citizen Tax Relief Program. This program gives a 30% property tax reduction to those senior citizens that qualify under the guidelines listed below. It also provides 2 additional payment benefits:
Save an additional 2% by paying the discount amount by March 31.
Pay two installments of half the gross tax due April 30th, and the other half due September 30.
The Allegheny County Treasurer's Office administers this program and is ready to assist you. To qualify, an applicant must meet all of the following requirements:
Unmarried & Married Applicants
If single, the applicant must be 60 years of age or older during the year 2017. If married, either spouse must be 60 years of age or older during the year 2017. If widowed, must be age 50 or older.
Residents who are at least 60 years old, have an annual income of $30,000 a year or less (counting just half of Social Security or Railroad Tier One benefits) and have lived in and owned their current Allegheny County residence for at least 10 years are eligible for a 30% reduction in their county tax bill.
